Kim Tomlian is a Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years of experience, developed across both the public and private sectors, working with adults and children.
Kim’s particular areas of interest include the postnatal period, parenting, parent-infant/child relationships, childhood trauma, adult trauma and adult survivors of childhood trauma including out of home care. Following her Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology, she has trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches and attends regular professional development sessions to keep up to date. Her training has included the Circle of Security Model and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) with both adults and children. Kim was the first person in Australia to be certified in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), a therapeutic and parenting approach based on attachment and developmental trauma research. She has also completed levels 1, 2 and 3 of the Gottman Couples Therapy training, completing level 3 with John and Julie Gottman in Seattle. Kim draws on a range of therapeutic approaches tailored for the specific individual/dyad/family.
Kim is committed to providing a non-judgemental, empathic and ethical psychology service. The topic of Kim’s PhD thesis was ‘Best interests of the child’: inter-professional communication in child protection trials.
